Meet the NTU

The Newark Teachers Union is New Jersey’s largest AFT local Teachers’ Union. Nearly 5,400 Teachers, Aides and Clerks provide professional instruction and non-instructional services for Newark’s children every day. The day to day operations of the NTU are handled by Jospeh DelGrosso, President and Pietro M. Petino, Executive Director who are supported by NTU full and part-time staff. NTU reaches into every elementary, middle, secondary and special schools via its Building Reps, a vital link between the Union and its members.

NTU headquarters is located in downtown Newark across from historic Symphony Hall. The NTU is easily accessible from all Newark schools and is conveniently located to Liberty International Airport, Penn Station, Garden State Parkway and the NJ Turnpike. There is ample parking which is adjacent to the building for members and visitors.

The first floor of NTU headquarters serves as the main hall for meetings for Building Reps, Executive Board members, community groups and Professional Development workshops for teachers and paraprofessionals. The NTU-AFT Labor History display and timeline are  also housed on the first floor.

On the second floor, you will find  the Research and Communication, Technology and Special Projects and Retiree departments. The mailing and reproduction center are also located on the second floor.

The President and Executive Director’s offices as well as legal counsel and the Assistant to the Executive Director are located on the third floor.

The fourth floor is dedicated to supporting NTU members’ professional needs through the Educational Resource Center, Computer Lab, Professional Development workshops and a smaller meeting room. It is also home to the NTU Education Foundation and ER&D departments.
