logo1With the passing of Chapter 103, PL 2007, there have been some significant changes with the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP).  This was not a negotiated change, this was done legislatively by the state of New Jersey.  Our negotiated contract is still in place, and you will continue to contribute nothing for you and your family’s health benefits for the duration of the current agreement.

Health Benefits Enrollment

The NPS's Fringe Benefits Unit is responsible for enrolling all eligible employees and dependents in the district's Health and Welfare Program. Employees must complete applications at

Benefit Service Office-Room 811
2 Cedar St.
Newark, NJ 07102

Remember the district does not enroll people for vision, dental, and prescription. You must enroll at the Supplemental Fringe Benefits office (see next page).

Ten-month employees who begin employment at the beginning of the school year will receive coverage effective September 1st each school year. Twelve-month employees have a 60-day waiting period from day of hire.

Changes, such as getting married or newly eligible children, must be added within 60 days of the event.

Changing the plan you are enrolled in can only occur during the annual open enrollment period of October 1 through October 31. Coverage changes made during the open enrollment period will become effective January 1 of the following year. You can call either Gail Hardy at 733-7336 or Linda R Daniel at 733-6905 for further information

Who is eligible for health benefits?

The NPS provides health coverage for all NTU members, who are full time NPS employees, through the State Health Benefits Program.

What health care options do I have?

There are three options for members/employees to choose from and we have provided a summary of them. For a more comprehensive summary contact NPS's Fringe Benefits Department at 733-6099, or contact the State's Health Benefits at (609) 292-7524.

Who do you contact when you have a concern about enrolling in a plan or a problem with a claim/coverage?

Contact people for Health Fringe Benefits:

Linda Daniel - 733-6905
Gail Hardy - 733-7336

Inquiries about claims and coverage should be made with the corresponding companies, in which employees are enrolled.
